YA@AL is having a great time working with ya’ll!

Our Home School Open House generated some interesting dialogue among attendees in relation to the presentation, The Library for the College-Bound Student.  Home-schooled young people got to meet each other and have some stimulating conversation, while parents in attendance asked questions regarding the library’s resources and services that can support their individualized curriculums.  Another session is being planned for November if you missed this one, so keep checking back for dates and times.

An enthusiatic group of college prep students at Curtis Baptist School also benefitted from the presentation which was delivered in class on Wednesday, September 5, 2012.  We look forward to greeting their members as they journey to the library for a follow-up visit intended to further reinforce the topics covered at their session.

The general public is encouraged to come hear the same presentation, The Library for the College-Bound Student, on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 3:00pm at the September installment of the Get Understanding Speakers Series.  This informational series held one Sunday afternoon each month at the Headquarters location features issues and/or persons of interest to patrons aged 11 to 17 years old.  Speakers discuss hobbies, college/vocational planning or present on community resources in a relatable way to and for teens.  Upcoming sessions include healthy cooking and eating for teens and a discussion of the December holidays celebrated by various faiths represented in the CSRA.  While the topics are geared toward teens, it’s actually a great way for the whole family to spend an enjoyable and educational afternoon together at the library.

August Scavenger Hunters on the prowl.

Congratulations to Caleb, Fredreca & Joshua, our 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place August Scavenger Hunt winners!  This month’s topic was Back to School.  As they excitedly searched throughout the closed library to find the answers to clues that helped complete their bingo cards,  High School Musical 3 provided the ultimate soundtrack for fun.  Who knew that Warren Buffet, the 3rd richest man in the world, graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?  Our hunters know now as most found the answer to this clue during their chase.  Everyone got prizes and food was enjoyed by all, so make sure you put September’s hunt on your calendar.  Friday, September 28th at 5:30pm is THE day and time you want to get stuck in the library.  Remember-you can’t win if you don’t play!

Keep checking back for periodic updates on what’s happening for ya’ll with YA@AL.  And that’s what’s up…
